The Game: A Fantasy Adventure in a Broken World

In a land once ruled by an ancient civilization, a creeping blight is consuming everything in its path. You play as a small but courageous plantling, determined to uncover the mystery behind this decay and restore balance to the world. Armed with a sentient backpack, you must navigate the perilous island of Akara, solve intricate puzzles, battle dangerous creatures, and harness the lost technology of a forgotten era.

Every ruin tells a story. Every challenge reveals a secret. Will you be the one to save Akara?

About the Game – "Rootbound"

"Rootbound" is a physics-based action adventure currently in development.

Step into the role of a courageous plantling fighting to save its home from a mysterious blight. With your sentient backpack, explore the handcrafted island of Akara, uncover ancient secrets, solve puzzles, and battle formidable monsters.

  • Explore & Discover – Akara is filled with lost technology, hidden lore, and powerful upgrades.

  • A Living Backpack – More than just storage, it assists you but may also attract enemy attention.

How to Enter the "Rootbound" Trailer Scoring Competition

Follow these simple steps to participate in the Rootbound Indie Game Trailer Scoring Competition:

Step 1: Download the Trailer Video 

  • Click the link below to download the official competition trailer.

  • Make sure your Project Framerate is 60fps

  • The video must not be altered in any way—just add your original music!​

 

 

Step 2: Compose & Score the Video

  • Create an original music score that brings the trailer to life.

  • Your composition should match the emotional flow of the trailer—from wonder and adventure to mystery and action.

  • Use any instruments or digital tools, but make sure your music is 100% original.​

 

 

Step 3: Upload Your Video to YouTube 

  • Export your trailer with your composed score.

  • Upload it to your YouTube channel.

  • Title the video as: "Rootbound Trailer Scoring Competition - [Your Name]".

  • Add the hashtag #Rootbound in the video description to help us find your entry.​

Step 4: Submit Your Entry & Pay the Fee 

  • Fill out the official submission form on our website.

  • Include the link to your YouTube video in the form.

  • Pay the 5€ entry fee to complete your submission.

Step 5: Wait for the Results! 

  • Our panel of industry professionals will review all submissions.

  • We might ask for proof that the composition is yours. AI-generated music is not allowed.

  • The Game Devs will listen and judge with us

  • Winners will be announced on YouTube, our website, and social media.

The entry fee helps cover the costs associated with running the competition, including:​

Entries will be judged based on:

  • Creativity & Originality – How unique and engaging is your composition?

  • Technical Skill – Quality of orchestration, arrangement, and production.

  • Emotional Impact – How well does the music enhance the trailer’s story and mood?

  • Narrative Alignment – Does the score reflect the transitions between adventure, mystery, and action?

 

7. What are the prizes?

 

Prizes include:

  • Professional exposure through our website, social media, and YouTube channel.

  • A high-quality sample libraries for further music production.

  • Mentorship and feedback from industry professionals in game music and sound design.

  • Additional surprise rewards to be announced!

 

8. When is the submission deadline?

 

The submission Extended deadline is April 12th, 2025. Make sure your entry is submitted on time to be considered.

 

9. How will the winners be announced?

 

Winners will be announced on:

  • Our YouTube channel

  • The official competition website

  • Social media channels
    Additionally, winners will be contacted directly via email.

 

10. Can I use pre-existing music for my submission?

 

No. All entries must be original compositions created specifically for this competition. Using pre-existing music will result in disqualification.

 

11. Can I collaborate with others on my submission?

 

No, this is an individual competition—collaborations are not allowed.

 

12. Who are the judges?

 

Our judging panel consists of experienced professionals from the game music and film industry and also the Game Developer.
